Design process explained
Client fills the questtionaire form. I'm asking more questions if necessary. Then I count total project cost. If in agreement, we sign a contract that secures both sides. Once pre-invoice payment is received, the project will be started immediately.
Making notes of everything I gather from the client questionnaire answers, building a design brief, to which we'll refer through whole project.
Starting to research various different topics related to design brief. Also depends on clients budget, how in depth the research can be, and on such facts as:
Is it rebranding project or new design?
How big the company is?
On what structure the business is based?
In some projects, other factors might play a role too.
Based on design brief and research, to get more details over certain topics, keywords, I build mind maps, from each mind map I note down the keywords, later I use them in a next stage.
I begin sketching, relying on: design brief, gathered information through research, mind maps, to generate as much creative ideas as possible.
It is always extremely important to take atleast short rest, to rest my creative thoughts and let a new ones mature. If possible, rest for a day is what it takes most of the time.
In this stage, I choose from 1 to 4 sketches and turn them into digital versions on a computer, ready for presentation, mostly I present my ideas in black and white, to make sure my client focuses on a shape of design, instead of color being there as disturbing object.
I simply and understandably state, why each particular version is being presented, and why is one or another design is better for my client needs.
After presentation file is ready (most of the time it's PDF file), I either send it to the client via e-mail, or we make a Skype call for presentation. For eye to eye meeting it's a must to discuss it at start, because money spent travelling has to be paid by the client.
If client chooses one of the versions presented, I receive clients feedback and we continue on to tweak that particular version till both parties are happy with the results.
If client dismisses all versions, stating reasonable reasons and statements why he doesn't approve any of the presented versions. Then I get back to the sketching part, and continue on building new ideas, then the process repeats from stage: "Sketch" to this point.
In the end after both parties are happy with the results, if only logo was made: then I get all the files ready with every dimensions and formats that client stated in a questionnaire stage, each dimension and format made into 3 types:
Colored version (if there is one)
If client hired me to do more designs or full brand identity project, I continue on creating other deliverables based on design brief, and presenting them for feedback till both parties happy with the results, just like with the logo design. Once we're done, I create last files for my client with all the dimensions needed and print ready files if it was our deal from the beginning.
When all files are ready to go, and once the client pays the rest of the project cost, I send the last files and client receives the rights for the designs made through the project, just as a contract will state.
However, everything doesn't stop at this point, if a client needs any support or help, and if it isn't any money related work, then I'm always up to support my clients.
